CBP Officers Seize Heroin Valued at Over $12 Million

U.S.Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry intercepted 123 pounds of heroin within a commercial bus this past Friday.

LAREDO, TEXAS – The seizure occurred at the Lincoln-Juarez Bridge on Friday, September 21, 2012 when CBP officers were processing arriving passenger buses.CBP officers referred a commercial bus for a closer inspection that resulted in the discovery of 49 bundles containing a total of 123 pounds of alleged heroin within the bus.

The alleged heroin has an estimated street value of $12.3 million.
CBP officers seized the heroin and the commercial bus. CBP officers turned the case over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) agents for further investigation.

“This hard narcotics seizure emphatically underscores the vigilance that CBP officers maintain while utilizing the non-intrusive imaging systems to ensure that the CBP mission is maintained in all areas of passenger processing.

A find of this magnitude is highly significant and the efforts of the officers are commended,” said Sidney K. Aki, Port Director, Laredo Port of Entry.
