CBP Seizes Cocaine at Boston Logan Discovered on a JetBlue Aircraft
(Thursday, February 16, 2012)
Boston - On Feb. 9, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Logan International Airport seized approximately 8.9 kilograms of cocaine that was discovered on a JetBlue flight that originated in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
"Customs and Border Protection's primary mission is preventing terrorists and weapons of terror from entering the United States, however, we also have a corresponding responsibility to enforce many other laws; this includes the interdiction of narcotics," said Director of Field Operations Kevin Weeks. "Collaboration among CBP and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has resulted in a successful seizure."
The cocaine was concealed inside an unclaimed suitcase and stowed with the rest of the checked luggage in the cargo hold.
CBP, along with investigators from ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) are continuing to investigate this case.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
