CBP Southbound Operations Seize Cash in Nogales
(Tuesday, February 23, 2010)
Nogales, Arizona - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped an illegal attempt to smuggle nearly $19,000.00 into Mexico.
On Monday evening, CBP officers were screening pedestrian traffic going into Mexico as part of a southbound inspection operation. The officers became suspicious of a 31-year-old woman from Sonora, Mexico and decided to question her further. During the interview process it was discovered that the woman had packages of money concealed in several places on her body. The woman was attempting to smuggle the undeclared currency out of the United States.
CBP officers seized the illegal currency. The woman was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further questioning.
