CBP Takes Custody of U.S. Marshals Top 15 Fugitive
(Monday, September 27, 2010)
Hidalgo, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Hidalgo International Bridge took custody of a fugitive facing state and federal charges who was extradited to the U.S. by Mexican law enforcement authorities.
On Sept. 24, CBP officers working at the Hidalgo International Bridge took custody of a fugitive facing state and federal charges who was extradited to the U.S. by Mexican law enforcement authorities.
The alleged fugitive was identified as Joseph Allen Garcia, a U.S. citizen, age 23, from Laredo, Texas. A check of a national database identified Garcia as a fugitive wanted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service on an alleged charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and for failure to appear on a state of Texas homicide charge. Accordingly, Garcia was listed as one of the top 15 fugitives wanted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
After his arrest, Garcia was transferred to the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service in McAllen, Texas.
Hector A. Mancha, CBP port director for Hidalgo-Pharr, said, “This extradition by Mexican law enforcement agencies illustrates how U.S. and Mexican law enforcement agencies work to apprehend and extradite U.S. fugitives who have absconded into Mexico.â€NO AMNESTY
