CBP U.S. Border Patrol agents seize heroin on Interstate 8

CALEXICO, Calif. – On Monday morning, Calexico station agents seized approximately 25 pounds of heroin at the Interstate 8 checkpoint, which is located approximately 35 miles east of Calexico, Calif.

At approximately 10 a.m., a canine team alerted to a red sport-utility vehicle (SUV) as it approached the primary inspection area. Agents referred the vehicle to the secondary inspection area where the driver consented to a search of the vehicle.

During a subsequent search, agents discovered several packages concealed within the spare tire which was underneath the vehicle. The packages contained a brown substance which tested positive for heroin.

There was approximately 25 pounds of heroin which was valued at more than $825,000.

The driver, narcotics, and vehicle were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration
