Border Patrol Agents Indicted

Burlington, Vermont - November 17, 2005

Two U.S. Border Patrol agents from Vermont are facing criminal charges. Prosecutors say Steven Garceau, 32, and Ross Schofield, 33, seized 60-pounds of marijuana at a Newport motel-- but let the drug dealer go free. The agents then reported the seizure to authorities, but claimed they had found the pot abandoned.

Agents Garceau and Schofield, both of Newport, were indicted Thursday for conspiracy, obstruction of justice and lying to investigators. If convicted, they face up to 20 years in prison.
