U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: December 17 - December 23

(12/23/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 19,873 pounds of marijuana and 28.3 pounds of cocaine. Agents arrested 11 criminal aliens and 7 gang members. There were 3 rocking incidents.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for injury of a child in the State of Texas, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Havre Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Browning, Montana. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño 13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had an active deportation warrant.


Miami Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Yulee, Florida. Records checks revealed the subject is a Sureño 13 gang member and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Quijotoa, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño 13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had an extensive criminal history.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,621 pounds of marijuana, a 2000 Volvo tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The driver approached the checkpoint and was referred to secondary inspection. A Z Backscatter x-ray of the trailer revealed the contraband concealed within a load of broccoli.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,054 pounds of abandoned marijuana and recovered a stolen 1999 Ford F-250 pickup near Gila Bend, Arizona.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Sells, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang member. Records checks revealed he had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.

Blaine Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Pakistan as he attempted to illegally cross into Canada near Sumas, Washington. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for aiding and abetting an illegal entry by making false statements on an immigration application in the State of Missouri, was ordered removed from the United States, and is currently on probation. The subject violated his probation by attempting to cross into Canada.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 6,656 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the conveyance. A Z Backscatter x-ray of the trailer showed anomalies in the trailer, and a search revealed 286 bundles of marijuana commingled with a load of cabbage.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for kidnapping with the use of a deadly weapon and willful cruelty to a child in the State of California. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,050 pounds of abandoned marijuana near Tumacacori, Arizona. Agents, with the assistance of a Border Patrol canine, discovered the marijuana wrapped in 20 burlap sacks.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two illegal aliens near Nogales, Arizona. Both subjects claimed that three armed bandits attacked them, firing two rounds at them as they attempted to flee from the bandits. One of the subjects stated that a bandit threw a rock, which struck him in the head. The injured alien received medical treatment from an emergency medical technician for the cut he sustained to his head.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala near Sierra Vista, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction as a sex offender in the State of California and had been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador at the Cameron County Jail near Brownsville, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject is an MS-13 gang member and had been previously removed from the United States.


Swanton Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 28.3 pounds of cocaine, a 1995 Honda, and arrested two nationals of Canada near Burke, New York. Agents assisted local law enforcement officials in conducting a vehicle stop. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a search revealed a suitcase with cocaine inside the trunk.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Sasabe, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being an MS-13 gang member and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico after assisting the State law enforcement officers near Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for assault with a firearm on a person in the State of New Mexico and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 493 pounds of marijuana, three handguns (two of which were loaded), 1 gram of methamphetamine, $5,000 cash, a Windsong recreational vehicle, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Huachuca, Arizona. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the RV. A physical search revealed the items. Records checks on the subject revealed he had an extensive criminal record to include burglary and drug possession.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 5,496 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer and arrested a national of Cuba at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and was referred to a secondary inspection area. A Z Backscatter x-ray scan of the trailer showed anomalies in the trailer, and a search revealed 454 bundles of marijuana within a load of tomatoes.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents received information from local law enforcement officers regarding a stolen vehicle that was being driven toward the traffic checkpoint near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Agents detained two subjects, and records checks revealed both had numerous felony arrests. Agents also recovered a stolen 1988 Chevrolet Camaro.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,203 pounds of marijuana, a tractor- trailer, and arrested two nationals of Cuba at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A subsequent search revealed 57 bundles of marijuana concealed within a load of broccoli.
