WASHINGTON - The nation's minority population is steadily rising and now makes up 35 percent of the U.S., boosted by a surge in Hispanic births and more Americans who describe themselves as multiracial.

New Census estimates for 2009 show minorities added 2.5 percent, or 107.2 million people. The white population remained flat, making up roughly 199.9 million, or 65 percent, of the country.

In 2000, whites comprised 79 percent of the total population and minorities 21 percent.

Currently four states - Hawaii, New Mexico, California and Texas - as well as the District of Columbia had minority populations that exceeded 50 percent. About 316 of the 3,143 counties - one in 10 - have minority populations of 50 percent or greater. That's up from more than 250 counties in 2000.

Mexico's Immigration Laws are designed to prevent such a demographic change. Just saying.

It's partly by design. But I wouldn't say it is completely a conspiracy, either. 1.White Americans are reproducing at a slower rate, and "minorities" at a faster rate.
2. Secondly, the American enterprising ethic creates entrepreneurs seeking to get rich...and feeds upon and demands the supply of cheap labor.
3. Liberal groups always represent themselves as the champions of the laboring or employed masses, so they accelerate the amount of social benefits to that group, thus increasing the trend. But they would do that to groups of whites who are also in that class. In fact a lot of the traditional labor movement is still opposed to high immigration. It's just that they no longer have the upper hand in that circle.

Not really, Asian Americans have the lowest birthrates, followed by white, black and Hispanic Americans. All American groups are low compared to poor "immigrant" birthrates. If the immigration laws were enforced and legal immigration was 500,000 a year there would be almost no demographic change.
