CEO Says Congress Denied Trump Justice by Not Funding Southwest Wall
As president's frustration grows, Tommy Fisher claimed his model will 'deliver border security for every single American, and we can prove it works'
by Kathryn Blackhurst | Updated 03 Apr 2018 at 6:24 AM
Congress denied President Donald Trump “justice” by passing an omnibus budget in March that combined only $1.6 billion for national security and border wall funding, according to the head of a firm competing for the structure’s construction contract.
“President Trump had it right — Congress did not do him justice by basically limiting the only thing they could spend is on a fence — not a wall,” Tommy Fisher said Monday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.” He is CEO of Fisher Sand & Gravel Co., one of four companies picked to build border wall prototypes.
“Imagine if [Secretary of Defense James] Mattis got in the military budget $700 billion, but there was a caveat on it that you could only build old military options. That doesn’t work,” Fisher told former Rep. Jason Chaffetz, substituting for vacationing host Laura Ingraham.
“[Our prototype] is a wall — not a see-through fence. It’s an actual wall. It’s 30 feet tall, 30 inches thick of concrete, and it will work,” Fisher said.
Fisher criticized lawmakers for withholding funds to build the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. With Trump growing increasingly frustrated with lawmakers’ stonewalling and slow-walking his border wall construction, Fisher urged Congress to take action and prioritize the safety and security of U.S. citizens above all other political concerns.
Fisher noted that his company offered the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) a proposal to build 700 miles of border wall across California, New Mexico and Arizona in five years, including high-speed access roads for border patrol agents on both sides of the wall “that will actually work.”
"We're here to ... deliver border security for every single American, and we can prove it works," Fisher said. "So when we build what we can build, literally those agents can travel six to 10 times as fast as they do because they have access. In the end, you have to build a barrier. And our barrier lasts 150 years. But then we've got to give access to these agents so they can protect every one of our lives."
Trump took to Twitter Sunday and Monday to berate Congress for resisting border wall construction and failing to compromise on an immigration reform to provide amnesty to illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, eliminate chain migration and abolish a visa lottery program.
"Border Patrol Agents are not allowed to properly do their job at the Border because of ridiculous liberal (Democrat) laws like Catch & Release. Getting more dangerous. 'Caravans' coming. Republicans must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough laws NOW. NO MORE [Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals] DEAL!" Trump tweeted Sunday.
"Honduras, Mexico and many other countries that the U.S. is very generous to, sends many of their people to our country through our WEAK IMMIGRATION POLICIES. Caravans are heading here. Must pass tough laws and build the WALL. Democrats allow open borders, drugs and crime!" Trump added Monday.

Garza said that a border wall "would definitely help border patrol operations," even though Democratic lawmakers and illegal immigrant advocates insist that a border wall is an unnecessary waste of money.

Mr. Fisher has great confidence in his concrete wall construction and has carefully thought through possible scenarios to thwart it. As he said, he has a plan for roads on either side to give border patrol quick response.

According to an article I read a couple of months ago, his wall will take 6 years to complete and cost $10 billion.

This construction company says it can build 700 miles of Trump's border wall for $12 billion

A construction company that built one of the eight border wall prototypes for the Trump administration says it's ready and able to build a 700-mile continuous wall from the Pacific Ocean in California through western Texas in a six-year period.
The Fisher Sand and Gravel Company told the Department of Homeland Security in the fall that it is willing to take on that task for $12.2 billion. Fisher has a plan to attain all project materials, manpower, and even a warranty for the wall, the company's president, Tommy Fisher, told the Washington Examiner on Friday.
"We're not advocating for a hodgepodge type of border system," Fisher said, referring to comments from DHS about using technology and sensors at select parts of the border instead of a wall.
President Trump requested $18 billion from Congress on Friday to build 654 miles of border wall. Fisher's plan would not only do it for two-thirds of that price but free the government from having to oversee all logistical and financing aspects of the project, as well as ensure all materials are made in the U.S., he said.
Fisher Sand and Gravel is one of six companies that was awarded a contract last year to build prototypes near the San Diego, Calif., border. Fisher said his company is the only one that offered the administration a comprehensive plan to build the wall, rather than just a 30-foot physical example of what the barrier should look like.
The company has secured construction partners with Caterpillar, CMC rebar, and Arizona Portland Cement Company. Liberty Mutual Insurance has offered two bonds — $10.8 billion and $1.3 billion — to fund the project.
Seventy percent of the funding would go toward the wall and 30 percent would be directed toward infrastructure surrounding the wall. Fisher insisted roads should be constructed on both sides of the wall, including an elevated roadway that would give Border Patrol agents a better vantage point and the ability to respond to illegal immigrant sightings at a faster rate. He said that would also allow agents to be discrete by not spinning dust while speeding to a scene and giving their location away to illegal border crossers.
Fisher said his company's new, patent-pending cast-in-form process will not only meet DHS expectations but last for 150 years.
Once the materials preparation process is finished, builders would be able to construct one mile of wall per day.

I don't know how it compares to competing walls, but his wall only extends 6 feet underground. Seemingly easy to tunnel under. His solution was to detect tunnels and bore a hole down to them and fill them with concrete.
His wall also is not the rounded top the President Trump said was best. I agree. With the large cylindrical top, you can't use a grappling hook.
It is also a solid wall which I have heard Border Patrol say they don't want. They want to be able to see what's on the other side.
Also, in some areas, there must be a flow through for water.
So this one doesn't get my votes!
