Charles Barkley: Immigrants Take Jobs Others Won't

Seems like everyone is talking about illegal immigration these days, and that includes former Phoenix Suns star Charles Barkley.

Barkley says he's frustrated that politicians won't do anything about illegal immigration, but that he admires the immigrants.

``First of all, illegal immigrants are bustin' their behinds, they do the work that whites and blacks don't want to do, so that's what you've got to respect and admire," Barkley said on the Jay Lawrence Show on News/Talk 92-3 KTAR.

Asked about Sheriff Joe Arpaio's crime supression efforts in areas where illegal immigrants gather, Barkley said, ``As a black man, I don't think you can ever have racial profiling. I don't ever agree with that.''

Barkley said he is more concerned about jobs being outsourced overseas than he is about illegal immigrants taking jobs in the United States.

``It's just frustrating watching all these politicians talk about illegal immigration as they ship trillions of dollars worth of jobs and things overseas," he said.

Sorry, but I dont give a flyin you-know-what about what this guy has to say.
He isn't even on the same planet as most people. He may as well be a politician.

I used to sort of like "Sir Charles", but I think he needs to confine his opinions to basketball because his knowledge on immigration-related issues seems to be slightly lagging.

There is NO job an American (of any color or ethnicity) will not do...provided they are paid fairly and not treated as slaves. Sorry Charlie, you're just plain wrong on this one...

I am so glad Jordan snubed his chances to win an NBA title.

Barkley is punk who had to resort to graving Shaq below the waist when they got into a fight a long time ago.

Charles is partly right, from the perspective of a wealthy person. His kids do not have to attend overcrowded schools with ESL students. He likely lives in an area where hospitals arent overflowing with illegals and anchor babies. He likely employs them in and around his mansion -- to him, they work cheap and hard; what is better than that. Just wait until an illegal without a license and insurance runs into his masarati and we will see what he says...

I am sure Barkley has illegals tending to his estate. It is not much different than when during the Dark Ages North Africans captured Europeans and enslaved them.

Lets see Charles Marlarky go into a poor black area and tell them that, his big ass will be thrown out in a minute!

Barkley is absolutely right about the jobs being outsourced but Charles does not understand that letting the ILLEGAL here is the same since outsourcing jobs and introducing illegals is the same....cheaper labor.

BTW The local head of the urban league (African American) in Miami-Dade says that he will not endorse any candidate who promotes amnesty for illegals. This fellows says that Blacks in South Florida were just starting to improve economically in south Florida in the 1960's then came the Cubans, Venezuelans, Nicas, Mexicans, Dominicans etc. They undercut the black workers by working for cheaper.

Too bad Charles Barkley does not get it! But then, who would be Charles Barkley had he never played in the NBA?

Well Mr. Barkley doesn't seem to be perfect does he? If he had been arrested at a DUI checkpoint he probably would have cried "foul"!

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Charles Barkley was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol early Wednesday. An officer with a task force that targets drunken driving saw the former NBA star run a stop sign about 1:30 a.m., Gilbert police Lt. Eric Shuhandler said. Barkley was in Scottsdale's Old Town area, a trendy spot in the Phoenix area. "I am disappointed that I put myself in that situation," Barkley said in a statement to The Associated Press. "The Scottsdale police were fantastic. Now it is a legal matter and I will not comment any further as it is a legal matter."

The 45-year-old Barkley, now an NBA television commentator, failed field sobriety tests after the officer smelled alcohol on him, and he was arrested. Barkley declined to submit to a breath test but was given a blood test. The results weren't immediately available.

Barkley was cited and released. His car was impounded and he left in a cab, Shuhandler said. Police described Barkley as cooperative, adding it is customary to release people after an arrest on suspicion of DUI.

"There was nothing unusual about how he was taken into custody," Shuhandler said. "He was treated exactly like we treat anybody else."

In 1997, Barkley was arrested in Orlando, Fla., and charged with hurling a bar patron through a glass window after the man tossed a glass of ice at him. The case was settled after Barkley was fined and performed community service.

Barkley was selected one the NBA's 50 greatest players in 1996 and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. He played 16 seasons for Philadelphia, Phoenix and Houston and was on the 1992 and 1996 Olympic teams. Barkley was an 11-time NBA All-Star and league MVP in 1993.

He starred at Auburn and last month was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.
