Chicago: Mexican Consulate Defends Worker Rights
Mexican Consulate Defends Worker Rights
Produced by Chip Mitchell on Monday, May 25, 2009
Mexicans in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin who’re getting shorted on their paychecks may have an easier time getting help. The Mexican government is launching a labor-rights service out of its consulate in Chicago. We report from our West Side bureau.
The consulate is handing out booklets explaining U.S. labor rights to everyone who visits on Monday mornings. It’s also setting people up with pro-bono labor attorneys. The consulate’s Ioana Navarrete says many Mexicans think they have to put up with abuses like sexual harassment and unpaid overtime.
NAVARRETE: The immigrant population is a very vulnerable one.
The consulate will help workers even if they lack authorization to be in the United States.
That raises Chicago native Brian Jacobsen’s hackles. He blogs against illegal immigration.
JACOBSEN: Mexico all but shoots their people over the border on a catapult because they can’t provide for them. How then do they have the gall to use the courts against us?
The consulate is planning to expand the program to other Midwest towns next month.

Unbelievable. This is total BS. They are in effect just going ahead with a defacto amnesty and North American Union (at least a U.S. - Mexico NAU). They are simply setting up shop here like it is already their country. And our government is completely and knowingly allowing it.
I really think now this is the plan. They know the American people will NEVER agree to amnesty or NAU. They are just going ahead as if there has been not only an amnesty, but a NAU as well. And the U.S. gov is not stopping them. In fact they are facilitating it.
There is no other way to explain this kind of insanity being allowed, and not only allowed, but fostered, rewarded, and reinforced.<div>Number*U.S. military*in S.Korea to protect their border with N.Korea: 28,000. anyone
Does anyone know how to fight for the removal of Mexican consulates in the US. They, like the commenter above says, are using their consulates as a de facto amnesty and walking all over us.
How do we get these consulates out of the US?
How do we find out where a new Mexican consulate is going up so we can protest it?

In the meantime, the U.S. counsulate in Mexico is busy processing applications for Mexicans to enter the U.S. legally. We need them to spend their time getting free, free, free for Americans in Mexico.

If I am not mistaken, every place where there is a consulate or embassy of Mexico or any other country, that is the sovereign land of that country.
In Charlotte, NC, I happened to run into the Consulate of Nicaragua in a tiny little clapboard building that was sharing space with a temp employment agency and a construction company. In a larger clapboard building was a hairdresser and a holistic therapist. Wish I had taken pictures.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
