Police arrested two suspects and seized over $2 million in marijuana in Southeast Portland and Clackamas Wednesday after a months-long investigation into a drug trafficking operation run by Chinese nationals.

Officers on Wednesday busted three residences that had been converted into grow houses after receiving tips several months ago from neighbors. Some of the grow houses were stealing about $8,000 in electricity every month from nearby power poles to operate transformers, lights and filtration systems, which created a major fire hazard, said Sgt. Pete Simpson of the Portland Police Bureau.

De Bin Zhen, 45, and Fujiu Chen, 51, were arrested at their homes on the 1100 block of Southeast 148th Avenue and the 7400 block of Southeast Clay Street and charged with multiple felony drug charges.

The three grow houses were located on the 11800 block of Southeast Powell Boulevard, the 7300 block of Southeast 118th Drive and the 30200 block of Southeast Eagle Creek Road in Clackamas. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation.

The trafficking operation had no connection to a medical marijuana program, Simpson said.
