VANCOUVER -- A Clark County child rape suspect and his wife were being held Monday without bail in a county jail in northeast Montana after having been deported from Canada on Friday.

Jeff B. Spady, 40, and Kim M. Spady, 39, were transferred from Regina, Saskatchewan, to the 12-bed, Sheridan County jail in the courthouse in Plentywood, Mont., at about 4 p.m. Friday. A member of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada ordered their removal to the U.S. earlier that day.

The Spadys, who were handed over to Sheridan County deputies at the Raymond, Mont., border crossing, could appear as early as Tuesday for an extradition hearing to return them to Clark County, said Sheridan County Sheriff Patrick Ulrickson. The couple could remain in Plentywood -- 15 miles south of the Canadian border, population 1,800 -- for up to two weeks, Ulrickson said.

According to Clark County Superior Court documents, Jeff Spady faces one accusation each of first-, second-, and third-degree rape of a child. The accusations involve a now-18-year-old woman who says he abused her from ages 10 to 16, the documents stated.

Spady and his wife also each face an accusation of custodial interference involving their four young children, with whom they fled to Canada on Sept. 7, the day the rape charges were filed in court.

Their four children -- boys ages 6, 8 and 14 and a girl 12 -- were taken into protective custody in Canada. They were returned to Washington and are in foster care, Kathy Spears, a spokeswoman for Child Protective Services, said Monday.

She declined to say whether they were in Clark County or elsewhere.
