Clearwater coddles illegals
Editor:
Affordable housing in the Clearwater area is all but gone. Retail and service sector workers in Clearwater are among the lowest paid in the Western world. To make matters worse the city has been flooded by legal and illegal immigrants who have forced wages even lower. Both Congress and the state Legislature have done nothing to stem the tsunami of illegal immigrants.

In other parts of the state some courageous city commissioners have passed laws banning the employing of illegals. However, the craven, prodigal Clearwater commissioners not only have failed to do anything about the immigration problem, they seem to be coddling illegals. City officials have also failed to even consider a living wage ordinance.

The Clearwater neighborhood of Skycrest has now become a virtual suburb of Mexico City, leaving what little affordable housing Clearwater had totally gone.

In my view, it is time for the Clearwater commissioners to ban illegals and pass a living wage ordinance to help the city’s working families. It is also about time for the government of Mexico to stop exporting their economic problems and to provide their workers with living wage jobs.
