May Pose Health Threat

Common Sense has learned that an arrest last week of five alleged illegal aliens in Cleveland may pose a health threat to the community.

According to our sources, the Immigration and Naturalization Service's ICE unit conducted a surprise raid on a Grand Drive home in the Bowman Hills area last week and took five people into custody as undocumented aliens. The five had been employed at the China Buffet Restaurant in the Wal-Mart Shopping Center on Treasury Drive off Dalton Pike.

The five were reportedly transported to the Silverdale Corrections facility in Chattanooga, where they are being held pending investigation of their legal status.

Common Sense has learned that the five were tested at the facility for various drugs and other chemicals, resulting in the discovery of Hepatitis C present in some, if not all, of the alleged illegal aliens. Hepatitis C is a highly contagious virus that can be passed from human to human through contact, including the handling of food products.

Sources close to the event have reported that Silverdale is not releasing the finding of the testing. This determination was reportedly made based on the fact that Silverdale, being a private contractor, is not required to release the information. Our sources tell us that, because they aren't required, the facility has decided not to release the information to the public.

Common Sense has placed calls to the Bradley County sheriff's office, the Cleveland City Police Department, and the Silverdale facility and is awaiting return calls from each.
