Chicago fugitive seized on drug-dealing charges

FLORIDA -- A Chicago man sought nationwide on drug-dealing charges was arrested Friday in Florida, federal officials announced Monday.

Fidel S. Hernandez of the 2300 block of North Harding Avenue in Chicago fled the Chicago area in December 2004, according to the FBI. Hernandez, 33, is a high-ranking member of the Maniac Latin Disciples street gang and was being sought on drug possession and distribution charges, officials said.

FBI agents arrested him in Gainesville, Fla., without incident, officials said.

He appeared in U.S. District Court in Gainesville on Monday. Officials say prosecutors will seek to return him to Chicago for trial.
