A hidden video camera captured a Cliffside Park nanny striking a 2-year-old boy with a broom handle and her fists, authorities said Thursday.

Police arrested 23-year-old Flor Barriento on aggravated assault and child endangerment charges Wednesday night after the boy’s mother brought them the videotape, said Joseph Macellaro, acting chief of detectives for the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Pretty impressive.... beating on a child... I have had it with this mess. Thank goodness the parents had enough sence to install a recording device. Child welfare protection services could have blamed the parents for the abuse and removed the child from the home. That poor little baby, what he must have endured

STOP HIRING ILLEGAL ALIENS!!!!! Especially to watch your children!!! After some of the remarks they have made about taking care of our children and some not so nice... why would anyone want to hire them????
Seems they resent us...so why would they be nice to our children??????!!!!!!!!

IT IS AMAZING TO ME THAT ANYONE WOULD HIRE SOMEONE WHO IS IN THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY TO WATCH THEIR CHILD. THEY REALLY DONT KNOW WHO THE PERSON IS. THEY COULD BE USING ANYONE'S IDENTITY. SO WHAT IS THE NANNY DISAPPEARS WITH THE CHILD? AND YOU DONT EVEN KNOW WHO THEY ARE? PLUS THEY ARE FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY SO YOU CANT REALLY DO A BACKGROUND CHECK ON THEM. I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW ANY PARENT COULD TAKE THIS RISK WITH THEIR CHILD.

That poor little guy His parents should be counting their blessings and lucky stars that the poor little thing wasn't seriously hurt or worse.
I also hope they realize that they are solely to blame for what happened to their little boy and live with that guilt for the rest of their lives.

And just think, this so called nanny is one of the people who would've benefited from Durbin's amnesty. Yep......a real shining example of the "cream of the crop" that the pro-illegal pols keep telling us about.

Maybe parents who hire illegals to tend their children should start being held accountable when something happens, no differently than they would be if they asked a stranger off the street to care for the kids, because that's basically what they're doing. They should also be held accountable just like any other employer. If parents knew there would be consequences for endangering their kids, and/or unlawful hiring practices, they might think twice. And since child care is a big field for illegals it would have the added bonus of eliminating one more job magnet.

Who in their right mind would hire illegal aliens to take care of their children.

The woman had hired Barriento about two months ago after she was recommended by several friends who live in her Cliff Street apartment building. Barriento took care of the boy nearly every day, Macellaro said.

I would like to know why anyone would hire an illegal alien to watch their child. Also, what kind of friends would recommend an illegal alien as a child care provider? That is crazy.
Barriento will probably be deported. But the sad part is, this child will be scarred for life.

This is such good advice. The person being hired could well be using a phony i.d. If your child disappears you would have no idea where to begin the search. No matter how great the financial incentive or the convenience factor, JUST SAY NO.

I think that the parents should face some sort of punishment for hiring an illegal alien. I am not saying lock them up but a fine, community service or something. Anyone that hires illegals-whether it is private citizens or companies-need to be punished to some extent.

Do these parents realize how absolutely lucky they are? This could have had a much more horrific outcome.


There is always a chance of something happening to your child, even if you leave them with a close family member-you hear stories about that as well. I just don't understand why the family did not have some sort of background check although maybe that would be fraudulent. Did they hire her because she would work under the table or cheaper?

At least they caught this one. This reminds me of a story I saw on Lou within the past year. A woman hired a home health care worker to care for her frail eldery bed-ridden father. The man was so frail and weak. The illegal alien worker was caught on tape violently beating this poor man. It was awful to watch. The illegal skipped town and the best was, she had worked with the elderly and also kids. Had many different aliases. The victim's daughter even hired this illegal from a "reputable" agency.
We cannot be too careful when it comes to our loved ones. There are enough bad Americans who mean us harm. Then you throw in people who aren't supposed to be here.

If we could elimintate the illegal population, law enforcement and other agencies would have that many more resources to concentrate on making and keeping it's citizens safe.
