Minutemen Back on the Border for Monthlong "Watch"

Hundreds of volunteers from several groups will begin month-long deployments along the Arizona-Mexico border today.

"Patriot's Border Alliance, Spencer's American Border Patrol, Jim Gilchrist Minuteman Project, San Diego Minutemen, Texas Minutemen -- about 15 groups. Another group from New Hampshire is coming down," says Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist.

Gilchrist's group and others will post volunteers to watch for and report suspected illegal immigrants or other illegal activity to the Border Patrol. They will be on patrol at a ranch southwest of Tucson, south of Sierra Vista.

He says 25 Americans die each day at the hands of illegal immigrants and he's not optimistic that will change anytime soon. "Not only a daily occurrence, this is almost an hourly occurrence throughout the country. And we have a U.S. Senate that doesn't really give a damn about who's paying the consequences of a lawless society as long as they get their political contributions."

He says the biggest barrier standing in the way of securing the border is the Senate. "Lawless senators. I know that's kind of harsh and it sounds a little wacky but my opinion 98 percent, 98 out of 100 of those senators are predpredominantly lawless in so far as their immigration laws."

Gilchrist says things have improved on the border since he launched the volunteer effort to help curb illegal immigration 3 years ago.

"I have been able to bring national awareness to this illegal alien invasion crisis and I'm elated," he says. "Certainly have got more information out and more people aware of this crisis than I dreamed I could in such a short period of time."

Who's responsible for the porous U.S.-Mexico border? Gilchrist says it's a bi-partisan effort. "Think if we follow the money and follow the pandering of votes, it's pretty self explanatory that we're no longer a nation that governed under the law."
