ICE, State Patrol bust 19 in human trafficking sting

Nov 5, 2007
MESA COUNTY – Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Colorado State Patrol took 19 illegal aliens into custody on Wednesday morning in a sting on Interstate 70.

The sting was near mile marker 22 in Mesa County around 8 a.m. when ICE and State Patrol stopped a loaded van.

The illegal aliens were taken to the Moffat County Jail.

ICE says Mesa County is a major thoroughfare for human trafficking. Four months ago, there was another immigration stop in the same area by State Patrol, but troopers had to let them go because ICE never came to the scene.

ICE has cancelled its contract with the Mesa County Jail and the Garfield County Jail, so the closest facility is 150 miles away.
