DENVER -- An illegal immigrant has been arrested after he admitted to sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in a cabin near Wolcott, sheriff's deputies said.

The Eagle County Sheriff's Office said they arrested Adolfo Guardado, 24, from Edwards, and charged him with sexual assault on a child, second-degree kidnapping and enticement of a child.

Guardado had been chatting online and exchanged phone calls with the victim, said Shannon Cordingly of the Eagle County Sheriff's Office.

On May 18, the girl asked Guardado for a ride to her school in Edwards. He picked her up and instead of going to the school, he drove her to a remote cabin on national forest land about 10 miles from Wolcott and sexually assaulted her, Cordingly said.

Guardado then took the girl to school, she said.

Deputies learned of the assault on May 24. "Guardado was cooperative with law enforcement; he led detectives to the remote unoccupied cabin and admitted to sexually assaulting the child," Cordingly said.

Guardado is currently being held at the Eagle County Detention Facility on a $15,000 bond. He has an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer for being in the U.S. illegally from Mexico, Cordingly said.
