Ritter mulls nuances in immigration pact
Secure Communities is a federal initiative to snag criminals.

DENVER — Gov. Bill Ritter continues to discuss possible tweaks to a pact on federal immigration enforcement reforms before he is willing to opt into the agreement that would fold Colorado into the effort.

Before committing to the Secure Communities program, Ritter wants assurances from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that data will be made available to states so they may track whether the program is accomplishing its mission, according to Evan Dreyer, spokesman for Ritter’s office.

“If we do move forward, we want to assure as high a degree of transparency, accountability and analysis of the data available as possible to make sure this is an effective program,â€
