POSTED: 11:54 am EDT April 9, 2007

U.S. Coast Guard officials said officers intercepted a sailboat carrying Haitians who admitted they were headed to Miami.

The 37-foot homemade vessel was spotted on Sunday just off the coast of Haiti with 78 people on board.

The group was brought on to a Coast Guard cutter where they were given food, water and basic medical needs.

Under the U.S. wet-foot, dry-foot policy, the group will be returned to Haiti.
