Revenge leads to jail time for two men. Rafael Orosco, 24 and Juan Aguilera, 32, face murder charges after Merced Co. Sheriff's deputies say they beat a man to death. The victim in that beating is believed to have shot and killed Rafael's brother, 20-year old Miguel Orosco.

The gunshots and aftermath stirred up a neighborhood off Washington Blvd. in Livingston early Sunday morning.

"There were people running everywhere. Going in circles in their cars," said an unidentified neighbor.

Deputies say the spark that made bullets fly was apparently an argument over a wager during a cockfighting match.

"Over what we believe was $10 or $15. All because somebody's rooster lost or won. This is despicable," said Merced Co. Sheriff Mark Pazin.

Investigators say a gunman, whose name is being withheld, opened fire on Miguel Orosco of Turlock. Minutes later, Orosco's brother, Rafael, and Juan Aguilera, proceeded to seek vengeance.

"They were able to wrestle the gun away after the shooter. From there, Rafael Orosco and his friend commenced to pummel the guy on the street," explained Pazin.

A woman who lives nearby witnessed the deadly beating.

"It was awful, really awful," said the neighbor.

Investigators are glad to have this case wrapped up, but the fact that one illegal act led to another, has Sheriff Pazin shaking his head.

"I just can't account for the way some people think and there's not rational discourse anymore," said Pazin
