Coleman Leads Franken As Minnesota Nears End of Senate Recount

Dec. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Republican Norm Coleman holds a 687- vote lead over Democrat Al Franken in a U.S. Senate race in Minnesota as a month-long recount nears its end.

Officials are searching for a package of 133 missing votes that would clear the way for them to complete their recount, Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie said today in an interview.

In addition to the missing ballots, the officials must also review about 5,500 ballots -- out of 2.4 million cast -- that have been challenged by the Coleman and Franken campaigns.

The officials will begin reviewing the challenged ballots on Dec. 16 and hope to complete the process in four days, although it could last longer, Ritchie said.
