I've driven through this checkpoint many many times through the years. Use to see the agents there checking on cars, usually waving us through but for a few years everytime I go through it's wide open, just see BP cars parked, no agents in sight. Maybe they do then occasionally man the checkpoint. In fact, plan to drive through there tomorrow going to visit relatives.

Agents seize 68 lbs. of cocaine near SoCal border

Friday, February 27, 2009

(02-27) 21:22 PST Los Angeles, CA (AP) --

Border Patrol agents have seized more than 68 pounds of cocaine at a checkpoint on Interstate 15 in Temecula, about 74 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Officials say a drug-sniffing dog smelled drugs when a Volkswagen Jetta stopped Thursday afternoon. Agents then found packages of cocaine hidden in the car's bumper and stashed inside the back seat.

The driver, a 26-year-old Mexican citizen, and the drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Customs officials say cocaine seizures along Interstate 15 totaled 275 pounds in February.
