States issue driver’s licenses under the constitutional authority of the Tenth Amendment.

Congress enacted REAL ID in 2005 creating standards for state-issued driver’s licenses, including evidence of lawful status. Effective Jan. 22, 2018, driver's licenses issued by states that are not compliant with REAL ID or haven't been granted an extension can't be used to fly in the United States. This brief summarizes state legislation authorizing driver’s licenses or authorization cards for unauthorized immigrants (not to be used for federal identification purposes) and examples of limits or exceptions for legal immigrants’ licenses.

Twelve states and the District of Columbia enacted laws to allow unauthorized immigrants to obtain a driver’s licenses. These states—California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Vermont and Washington—issue a license if an applicant provides certain documentation, such as a foreign birth certificate, a foreign passport, or a consular card and evidence of current residency in the state. Oregon enacted S833 that provided driver’s licenses for unauthorized immigrants in 2013, but the following year voters approved ballot Measure 88 that suspended the law by 67 to 33 percent.

Mandatory NATIONAL, FEDERAL, voting and Driver's License Laws!

States cannot harbor, and award, government benefits and licenses to illegal aliens!

California is already allowing them to work in their State government offices!

These States GET Federal Tax dollars for their schools. ANY school who enrolls an illegal alien should be STRIPPED of those Federal Tax dollars now!

YOU CANNOT HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TO AND DISOBEY OUR FEDERAL VISA AND IMMIGRATION LAWS!

WHERE ARE THE LAWSUITS AGAINST THESE SCHOOLS???

ANY STATE, WHO DOES NOT ISSUE DRIVERS LICENSES TO ILLEGAL ALIENS, SHOULD BE ABLE TO PULL THEM OVER, CONFISCATE THEIR LICENSE AND THEIR VEHICLES AND HAND THEM OVER TO ICE!

I don't like it either, but New Mexico has been giving driver's license to illegal aliens since 2003.

If it was a violation of federal law some president, some congress, some attorney general, someone would have done something about it by now.

I agree. I don't see how this can be considered anything but aiding and abetting illegal aliens. The DOJ should be making an effort to shut this programs down. Where's Trump on this issue? I've never heard him asked that question.

TRUMP NEEDS TO SIGN AN EXECUTIVE ORDER AND DEEM "ALL DRIVER'S LICENSES ISSUED TO ILLEGAL ALIENS NULL & VOID"!!!

LET ICE HAVE ACCESS TO THESE RECORDS AND LOAD UP THE BUSES FOR DEPORTATION!

GET THEM OFF OUR ROADS AND OUT OF OUR COUNTRY!
