Border Patrol agents have found several five-gallon buckets packed with 156 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop in Temecula.

The bust happened Monday afternoon on Interstate 15 when a drug-sniffing dog found the drugs in 12 buckets in the back of a sport utility vehicle.

Agents found the marijuana wrapped in plastic and covered with an industrial adhesive to conceal the smell and avoid detection.

The Border Patrol says the 23-year-old driver was taken into custody on suspicion of smuggling drugs.

Since Oct. 1, the Border Patrol has seized more than 9,700 pounds of marijuana in the San Diego sector.
