Commentary: Will the GOP Allow Amnesty to Blow up in Its Face?

Will the GOP allow Amnesty to blow up in its face? Maybe.

If you want your home invaded, leave your doors open and put a sign on the front lawn announcing that your doors aren’t locked. Biden’s head of DHS, Alejandro Mayorkas, has paid lip service to enforcing immigration without doing it. He’s announced that the border is secure and closed to illegals all while record numbers of mostly young men flow across the southern border. Five million on the last count — and all during the past two years of Biden’s disastrous presidency. Biden has done everything but post an “Open 24 Hours” neon sign at the border. There is no stopping the flow because illegals know that they will be let in.

All illegals have to do is cross and turn themselves in. They will be processed and released. The chances of them appearing for a deportation hearing are about equal to me pitching for the Dodgers next season. Cartels are getting rich, and America is getting poorer. Illegals don’t contribute to the amount that burdens the system. If a child crosses, the child will be placed in public school, educated on taxpayer money, and fed at school.

Texas, for example:

  • Texans pay between $579 million and $717 million each year for public hospital districts to provide uncompensated care for illegal aliens.
  • Texans paid $152 million to house illegal criminal aliens for just one year.
  • Texans pay between $62 million and $90 million to include illegal aliens in the state Emergency Medicaid program.
  • Texans paid more than $1 million for The Family Violence Program to provide services to illegal aliens for one year.
  • Texans pay between $30 million and $38 million per year on perinatal coverage for illegal aliens through the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
  • Texans pay between $31 million and $63 million to educate unaccompanied alien children each year.

To a greater extent in California, and a lesser degree in the rest of the country, the above can be calculated as a net loss for each of the remaining states. We pay, and illegals benefit. That is why they come.

Legal immigration is a plus. America, for the most part, is a nation of immigrants. It is not “closed” — it is, and always will be open to legal immigrants with skills that benefit not just one employer but their community and America. And they will pay taxes too. The position of the Biden administration is to ignore the unending flow of illegal immigration and pretend they do not see the problem knowing, at some point, Democrats and squishy Republicans will decide that the only way to make the millions of illegals a net benefit is to grant amnesty. That day is now, in the lame-duck Congress, and it’s not being pushed just by Democrats, it’s being championed by some Republicans and one in particular. Republican Senator Tom Tillis (NC) is pushing his Frankenstein monster along with Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ).

Matt Vespa at Townhall reported that the proposal would grant amnesty to two million but, like a game show, “That’s not all folks!” Behind Curtain Two is conservatively another seven million who would be eligible to enter as dependents and extended family as sponsored members. We’ve seen this movie before. Amnesty only leads to more incentive to pack a bag and head to our southern border. This won’t end until Republicans quit turning into squishes, rolling over for whatever Democrats want – which is more people who will vote Democrat for the rest of time.

Jim, why are you so heartless? I’m not. I just don’t think there is much compassion in encouraging people to pay cartels thousands of dollars to be abused and beaten, women raped, and children trafficked on the off chance that they find a place to sleep, live in poor conditions, and work for illegal wages. A reminder — the vast majority of Hispanics do not like illegal immigration either. Hispanic support for the GOP has kept Texas deep red. Democrats see their support slipping with Hispanics and they need to fill the gap. And amnesty is one way to do that.

Instead of the GOP blowing itself up with an amnesty bomb, how about Republicans take a stand and deny Democrats what they want? Without Republicans, there will be no amnesty. If Republicans embrace amnesty, it’s going to blow up in their faces.
