Comprehensive immigration reform is not necessary

Comprehensive immigration reform is not necessary

Ever wonder if your congressional representatives are listening to you?

I can answer that with a resounding "no!"

After the Kennedy-McCain Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill went "down in flames" a couple years ago because the majority of Americans were against it, one would think the issue would be dead.

However, President Obama has put the issue of amnesty for illegal aliens back on his agenda for next year.

Some in congress obviously didn't want to wait that long because U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez introduced a bill called Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009.

As you read along, you will see how utterly laughable that title is.

First, this act, if passed, would give up to 20 million illegal aliens in America legal status.

An act like this would only encourage more illegal immigration because it would tell anyone that wants to come here illegally that we are not interested in protecting our borders and if they break our immigration laws they are welcome anyway.

Second, this act would increase the number of visas. We already admit 1.1 million legal immigrants into our country each year and this act would only increase the immigrant population numbers to an even more unsustainable level.

We currently have a 10.2 percent unemployment rate for Americans, so where are these new jobs going to come from to give to these new immigrants?

Third, the act would reduce the waiting time for family members of previously admitted immigrants to gain U.S. residency.

If the chain migration law was only extended to the legal resident's spouse and children then I would have no objection to it, but that is not currently the law that is in place.

With current chain migration laws, any person who comes here legally can petition for not only their immediate family members to come, but also grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. I think you get the picture ... uncontrollable population growth.

Americans need to tell the president and congress outright that enough is enough!

It is time to listen to the American people, and the majority of Americans do not want amnesty for any illegal aliens!!

Even more, so-called "comprehensive immigration reform" does not need to take place.

All most of us want is for the current immigration laws to be enforced.
