Congress exempts returning foreign workers from visa cap
Press Trust of India
Washington, May 4, 2005
The US Congress has exempted foreign employees retuning to a previous job from the annual cap of 66,000 H2B visas meant for temporary workers.
This was part of the immigration provisions of the spending bill approved on Tuesday by negotiators for the House of Representatives and Senate.
The bill exempts foreign employees returning to a previous job from the 66,000 annual cap on H2B non-farm temporary workers.
This provision had been sought by the summer hospitality industry and seasonable industries such as crabmeat packers in Maryland and Virginia.
It also eliminates several caps on asylum seekers, including a 1,000 per year limit on those seeking asylum from coercive family planning policies, such as China's one-child policy.
The bill also makes it difficult for illegal aliens to obtain driver's licences.
The spending bill totalling $82 billion includes $75.9 billion for the war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan; $636 million for aid to victims of the December 26 Indian Ocean tsunami and $4.2 billion as part of a foreign aid package.

The war on terror is the new war on drugs.Hopefully they'll realize a little earlier on that it's a complete waste of time, money, effort, and resources and concentrate on something else.
We've been so bad on enforcing immigration in the past that now it seems everything we do to address the situation just bounces right back and knocks us down.
