Caroling for the DREAM Act

Below, is a report from Reform Immigration For America - DREAM Amnesty Washington, DC: http://reformimmigrationforamerica.org/ ... dream-act/

Yesterday evening, DREAMers and other activists from across the country gathered in downtown Washington DC to get into the holiday spirit to support the DREAM Act. They gathered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and sang carols with new lyrics about the DREAM Act.

A sampling:

(to the tune of "O Christmas Tree)
Oh Senators, oh Senators,
Please pass the DREAM Act now.
Oh Senators, oh Senators,
Please pass the DREAM Act now.
We want to learn, we want to serve;
We can reduce the deficit.
Oh Senators, oh Senators,
Please pass the DREAM Act now.

From the Lincoln Memorial, the carolers marched to the National Christmas Tree on the White House lawn. (If you look closely, you can see the White House in the picture at the top of this post.)

They sang more carols and looked at all the decorated trees representing the states in the union. It's hard to look at those trees without thinking about the members of Congress who work just a few blocks from all those beautiful decorations, and who they really represent.

In this holiday season, we normally think about our families and friends, and what they mean to us. We also think about what we have to offer the people we care about - gifts, or time spent together. Or songs. The tradition of caroling around the holidays still happens because we like giving other people the gift of songs we can sing together. That's what the event last night was about.

This week, there will be DREAM Act events happening all over the country and here in DC. We'll keep you updated as they happen. We'll also keep you updated with any more DREAM carols we sing this week - if you've got any great DREAM Act songs, tell us about them in the comments.
