COCHISE COUNTY - A woman and her unborn child died in a rollover accident in Cochise County.

It happened around 7:00 am on Thursday along Three Links Rd., west of Willcox.

Officials said three vehicles were traveling together, when a truck, carrying multiple people in the back, lost control and rolled.

Several people fled the scene and when helicopters arrived nine people remained, all needing medical attention.

Cochise County Sheriff deputies said the injured people told them, when the truck flipped they were thrown all over the place. By the time deputies arrived, the two other cars were gone along with the driver.

Carol Capas with the Cochise County Sheriff's Department said, "It's sad. You have people who are coming into the country and putting their lives in someone else's hands, and then to be involved in something like that and have them simply walk away and get away as quickly as possible and not even make the phone call for help."

The accident happened in the middle of the desert on a dirt road; a road the Sheriff's Department said gets a lot more traffic than it should. Capas said, "Its a high traveled route for people who live there but the other reason people would use a road like that is to get through Cochise County and typically it is illegal immigrant trafficking."

Officials said they are still looking for the driver and others involved in the accident.
