Dominican, once deported for felony, caught in EH

A man who was deported from the United States to the Dominican Republic in 2003 following a felony conviction has been charged with illegally re-entering the United States after he was found living on Bliss Street in East Hartford in December, authorities say.

Authorities identified the man as Jose Eduardo Pena-Rodriguez, 32. A federal grand jury in New Haven indicted him Thursday on a charge of illegally re-entering the United States after being deported, Acting U.S. Attorney Nora R. Dannehy announced.


Edgar Vasquez, a deportation officer in the federal Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in an affidavit that Pena-Rodriguez has used the names Raphael Gomez, Jose Rodriguez, and Felix Fontanez.

He had obtained a Connecticut identification card bearing the name Felix Roberto Fontanez-Torres before he was arrested Dec. 4 at 97 Bliss St. in East Hartford on “administrativeâ€
