Residents Say Immigrants Causing Illegal Aggrivation

June 19, 2007
Residents in Southwest Huntsville say illegal immigrants are wreaking havoc in their neighborhoods. Vandalism, reckless driving, and public urination are just some of the complaints. Now one councilman is taking his concerns to city hall.

Councilman Bill Kling says illegal immigrants are causing all kinds of problems in much of his district, and that the folks he represents are demanding action now. Residents say they've seen suspected illegal immigrants engaging in everything from vandalism to public urination the last few months. And those neighbors claim police are simply ignoring their complaints. Councilman Kling is holding a special town hall meeting on the matter Thursday night at 7:00.

Speaking with WAAY 31's Nick Banaszak, Kling says right now there's no way to prove who is illegal and who's not, but that requests to identify those suspects have been ignored by authorities. Kling says he wants more information on what kinds of problems are going on, and will also talk about what avenues local law enforcment can take to help curtail any problems.
