In the interview, Mr. Calderón argued that the only way the Americas could remain competitive in a world where China and Europe were emerging as major powers once again is to integrate the economies in the Western Hemisphere. He warned that the United States was losing influence.

“What is clear to me is that in Latin America, and in the world, for some reason the United States has been losing friends, and it seems to me it should do everything possible to reach out to the few friends it has left.â€

Some political analysts and advocates for immigrants worry that Mr. Calderón may step on a political land mine on his trip.

I thought Calderon was going to be better than Fox, but apparently Mexico's goal, no matter who their president is, is to sucker America and Americans to keep footing the bill for THEIR citizens! It's a socio-econimic problem that they are trying to elude/resolve. The pawns really are those who come here illegally. In a sense, we are all victims.
