Construction Begins for Gates to Border Wall
Construction Begins for Gates to Border Wall
11/30/2018
BROWNSVILLE, Texas - Construction of the border wall begins along the Rio Grande Valley Sector. In this case only the gates are going up. Residents say it will help decrease drug smuggling happening through their backyards.
The U.S. Border Patrol RGV Sector was awarded a contract of about $4 million to construct border wall gates for gaps. The area of responsibility for these gates are the responsibility of the Harlingen, Fort Brown, and Brownsville Border Patrol Stations.
The RGV Sector continues being the busiest in the nation. Last year over 137,000 undocumented immigrants were apprehended and over 260,000 pounds of marijuana were seized. Residents say the gates will minimize drug smuggling across the border.
"If it'll stop some drugs from going through it's good. We don't need more drugs in the United States anymore and stop the bad people from coming across, the MS -13 stuff like that we don't need them. There used to be groups of 60 and 70 going through my fields in the middle of the night. Now I don't notice it anymore when they put the cameras up. That's what stopped the traffic because people don't know if they're being watched or not."
CBP says the gates will serve as a persistent impediment to smuggling organizations, while still allowing river access to property owners.
Martin Figueroa's residence is located right in front of the border wall. He says undocumented immigrants tend to cross through. "If it's for the good of the community ... I say it's a good idea but I've had people jump the wall onto my roof and they've never done any harm to me. I'm not going to judge them like the President that says they're criminals.”
It is still unknown when the project will be completed. What is known is the contract has an option for an additional four gates.
The first stretch of border wall construction started in Calfiornia two weeks ago. 2019 is expected to be a busy year for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers as full construction begins in Hidalgo and Starr counties.

Get tanks and bulldozers on the Rio Grande. Let our military bulldoze a 1 mile buffer zone where there is thick brush...burn it!
Get it ready for the WALL and it will allow Border Patrol to see who is coming across! No hiding places!!!
Like Pelosi said...go down there and "mow the lawn"!!!ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVE "BROKEN" OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM
DO NOT REWARD THEM - DEPORT THEM ALL

Sorry to inform the author of the article, but that is not a "wall" .... it's a useless fence.
Calling a fence a wall is akin to calling an illegal alien an undocumented immigrant."The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

Everyone in this administration, the President included, should stop calling any border security measure like a new steel bollard fence, a wall. Border Patrol doesn't want a wall, the majority of American voters don't like the wall, DemoQuacks won't fund a wall, so the wall is dead, over, gone, bye bye, so just call it a big tall American-made bollard steel fence.

What a load of B.S.! Of course the American people want a wall. It was Trump's campaigned for border wall that added a tremendous amount of enthusiasm to his presidential campaign!
The prototype border wall designs he had made at the border were wall designs, not fencing!!!"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

I see you edited your comment after I made my post. Your original comment was "the American voters don't want a wall."

I saw this yesterday, and have been trying to learn more...
Is it true Trump did not spend 1.3 billion allocated for border security?

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) slammed President Donald Trump Thursday for holding up spending talks and offered his own hard line as a fight over Trump’s border wall heats up.
Schumer said Trump could either accept a bipartisan bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security or simply extend existing funding levels for one more year, a disappointment for a president who wants to increase border security spending.
“Seven bipartisan appropriations bills are hanging in the balance for one reason and one reason only: President Trump,” Schumer said on the Senate floor.
Congress has until Dec. 7 to avoid a partial government shutdown, with funding for Trump’s border wall the biggest issue. The president has asked that Congress provide $5 billion for the wall, far higher than Democrats support.
In his speech, Schumer blasted the Trump administration for not spending the $1.3 billion Congress already allocated for border security and accused the president of “trying to manufacture a shutdown to fire up his own base.”

No, that isn't true. If Americans wanted a concrete wall like what Trump wants and campaigned for, he would have won the popular vote in 2016, and Republicans would have won the mid-terms bigly. But Trump didn't win the popular vote in 2016 and Republicans lost the mid-terms HUUUGE!! Americans still like Trump, they just don't want a wall, they want a different type of border security, like the big tall American-made steel fence that's going up that Border Patrol wants and DemoQuacks will fund. Personally, I like the big tall steel fence better than the concrete wall and with the improved standards on the fencing, I think Trump likes it better too. If's easier to put up, you can see through it, it drains the properties around it better, it's easier on wildlife, easier to build, probably a whole lot cheaper, too.
So Trump just needs to start calling it the big tall beautiful American-made steel fence that Border Patrol prefers and can see through.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan
