Consular Officials Leery About Tourist Visas

Consular Officials Leery About Tourist Visas

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) _ The tears well up in Velia Johana Castro’s eyes as she repeats what the consular officer told her just minutes earlier.

“He said, ‘You didn’t qualify yesterday, you don’t qualify today, and you won’t qualify tomorrow,â€

But in the eyes of the consular officer in Hermosillo, Sonora, in Mexico, they didn’t present a compelling enough case _ through bank accounts, property ownership, social and family ties _ to convince him they would return to Mexico afterward. Officers are trained to assume every applicant intends to overstay a tourist visa to live and work in the United States.
Our government is so distorted it makes me laugh. We deny entry to those who want to come here legally( and we should until we can get the illegals out of this country) on vacations, but we extend every benefit imaginable to those that can enter illegally. In addition, once they are here, we have ethno-centric groups that lobby against any and all legislation which would deal with these criminals. We cannot even come to a consensus on deporting those who have been convicted for committing crimes!

Maybe if it was made a felony to overstay a visa with a mandatory sentence of 2 years and never to be allowed to enter the U.S. again. Giving this explanaton of the rules at the time the visa is approved just might cut down on overstays.

If you want to end a problem don't make it look so appealing.

These visa applicants only have their illegal brethren here to thank for their denials.
