Exactly. At the comment section at the end of the article at the top of this thread, check out the rhetoric. It's mindboggling. Some of these people who are commenting really do not have a clue about what is happening in this country.

I saw that, James. That should give these naysayers something to chew on. I'm getting back in now to see what they have to say about it. Usually, if you come up with facts, they back off big time.

Thanks, Phred. It'll be interesting to see if we can get this Consulate halted, at least for a while.

Sali seeks delay in Mexican consulate for Idaho
    TODD DVORAK

Rep. Bill Sali, R-Idaho, is urging Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice to hold off opening a Mexican consulate in Idaho until the government can show the office won't aid illegal aliens.

Sali, a conservative first-term congressman, sent Rice a letter Wednesday saying Idaho residents deserve guarantees that Mexican consular offices will not help illegal aliens obtain identification cards that can be used to receive government services or other benefits.

"Our government has the moral and constitutional duty to take into consideration how foreign consulates affect our fellow citizens here in our own country," Sali wrote in the letter to Rice that was made available to news media.

"While I appreciate the important role that the Mexican and other foreign consulates play in facilitating trade and assisting their citizens in distress just as our foreign consulates do, that is not the issue at stake here," he added.

Sali asserted that the State Department has done little to assure residents that a consular office would not be used to aid illegal immigration.

The State Department did not return phone messages from The Associated Press on Wednesday.

In March, Sali received a letter from the State Department saying an application for a consular office in Boise is pending.

Idaho is one of several states without a Mexican consulate, but a grassroots effort to open one has been under way for several years. Supporters say they have collected about 10,000 signatures on a petition requesting a Mexican consular presence in the state.

The Mexican consulate in Salt Lake City, one of 49 in the United States, now covers Idaho, Montana and western Wyoming. The consulates, all funded by the Mexican government, help Mexicans living in the United States with documentation, passports, protection, banking and legal advice.

Sali has made a campaign issue out of the proposal for a Mexican consulate in Idaho, where Hispanics represent the biggest minority and one of the fastest growing minority populations. Sali's 1st Congressional District in western Idaho and Canyon County, home of one of the state's biggest Hispanic communities.

Sali, who won election in 2006 by five percentage points, faces a May 27 primary challenge from Matt Salisbury, an Iraq veteran.

Thanks for posting this, Jean. You know, one has to wonder about Sali. He acts like he wants to keep the illegal aliens out of Idaho, yet he refuses to sign on to the SAVE Act. I wonder what's up with that?

All of you are great Americans.
Earlier in the week, State Department officials said they do not comment on pending applications for foreign consular offices.
And just why in the hell not? What is so damn secretive about a consulate?
