The incident, which occurred at Parliament Hill’s Centre Block, is still ongoing, with authorities searching buildings for the shooter, who is described by eyewitnesses as 5’9-5’10, overweight and wearing a dark jacket. The suspect was reportedly carrying a long gun.

“Police have locked down Parliament and Ottawa Police tactical officers have arrived, pointing guns at journalists and ordering them to the ground. Journalists were put into lockdown at the foyer in front of the House of Commons,” reports the Globe and Mail’s Josh Wingrove.
Wingrove sardonically tweeted from the scene, “Ottawa police tactical officers are here and very kindly pointed their guns at every reporter, ordering hands in the air and us to ground.

Wingrove also reported that he saw “one motionless body outside the library of parliament” and that police had fired shots in that direction.
“Eyewitnesses said an armed man with long black hair emerged at the war memorial, fired about four times, and a guard went down,” states the report. “The gunman then ran toward Parliament Hill. The shooting victim was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Police have sealed off the area. The gunman’s whereabouts are unknown.”

The shooting follows an incident on Monday in Quebec in which two Canadian soldiers were hit by a car by an attacker who officials say had recently converted to radical Islam. One of the victims later died.

UPDATES: Soldier Shot Near Canadian Parliament; More Gunmen Reported

    As seen on America's Newsroom

A shooting has taken place this morning near Canada's Parliament in Ottawa.
A soldier standing guard at the National War Memorial was shot by a gunman, David Lee Miller reported moments ago.
Gunfire was then heard around the Parliament building. Witnesses describe several dozen shots fired.
One witness told CBC he saw a man running with a double-barreled shotgun, wearing a scarf and blue jeans.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper is reported to be in a safe location.
The incident comes just two days after two Canadian soldiers were run over -- and one of them killed -- in Quebec by a man with jihadist sympathies.

    11:45a ET: FoxNews.com reports:
Multiple gunmen opened fire at the Canadian Parliament complex, shooting at least one soldier and spraying as many as 30 shots inside the government building just two days after a terror attack in Quebec shook the nation, officials said.
The shots rang out just before 10 a.m., when witnesses said they saw one and possibly two men jump out of a Toyota Corolla and run toward the National War Memorial, where one man opened fire on a soldier, officials told the Ottawa Sun. The gunmen then ran to the Parliament building, where witnesses later said they saw one man - possibly a gunman, down near the library. Bernard Trottier, a Toronto-area MP, tweeted that the gunman inside Centre Block "has been shot and killed” but that could not be confirmed.

12:15p ET: Canadian police confirm one gunman is dead after a shooting this morning inside Parliament and at the War Memorial in Ottawa, in which at least one soldier was wounded.
12:20p ET: Former CIA analyst Fred Fleitz believes ISIS or al Qaeda is to blame. He told Jon Scott that he thinks Ottawa's Parliament was chosen because of the lighter security than in the United States and Britain.
Fleitz said it appears to him to be a sophisticated operation, more than just a homegrown terror attack.
"The is the purpose of the Islamic State. To stage acts of terror outside of the Middle East to terrorize Western audiences," he said, adding that Canada will have to step up its security measures.

'Best Deterrent to Lone Wolf Attackers Is an Armed Citizenry'

As seen on Fox and Friends

How can a lone wolf terrorist be stopped? Judge Andrew Napolitano pointed out this morning that there's a big difference between gun rights in the United States and Canada.

Judge Nap: Beheading Attack Illustrates Importance of Gun Rights

Napolitano said loners with guns are a "devious" way for terrorists to strike.
"It's one guy getting out of a car and starting to shoot. What is the best deterrent to that? An armed citizenry. People able to protect themselves. We have a Second Amendment in this country. They do not have the equivalent of that in Canada," said Napolitano.
The attacker, now identified as 32-year-old Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, was not stopped until he made it all the way into the Parliament building. He nearly got to lawmakers, but was shot dead by a heroic Sergeant-at-Arms.
Steve Doocy and Napolitano also highlighted the state of Oklahoma, where a company executive with a firearm was able to stop the beheading suspect before he could murder more people about a month ago. The heroic employee was also a sheriff's deputy.
The soldier who was shot and killed at the National War Memoral in Ottawa yesterday was holding a ceremonial gun that was not loaded, according to reports.
"That is insane. For a cop or a soldier to carry a gun that doesn't work? ... He was a sitting duck," the judge argued.
(Below you can see the last photo taken of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo (left) before he was shot. It was snapped by a tourist.)
