Corporate greed is the cause

The Tribune's Dec. 17 editorial on the Hyrum raid was, for the most part, great. Yes, companies take advantage of illegal aliens, and those companies go unpunished. However, the last sentence of the article left a very important issue unaddressed:
"Some industries rely on the supply of immigrant labor, much of it illegal. That needs to be reformed so that the labor supply can meet the demand within the law."
These industries rely on illegal workers because they work for less pay, are scared to complain and work long hours. When these industries stop abusing the willingness of others to subject themselves to substandard working conditions, their reliance on illegal workers will cease.
When the greed that extends its vicious tentacles into every aspect of the American capitalist system ceases, so will the exploitation of others.
In the end, the demand of any industry for illegal workers is fueled by that industry's greed and amoral treatment of those it employs. The supply of illegals will never cease so long as industries consider the fatted calf of their own bank accounts first.
