Federal Agencies Raid Offices

NEW HAVEN, CT — - Federal officials raided the offices of the Community Action Agency of New Haven on Thursday in the wake of allegations it has provided federally funded heating assistance to illegal immigrants, the state Department of Social Services announced Friday.

On Thursday, officials from the federal Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Housing and Urban Development removed files, applications, documents and three agency computers used in determining eligibility for energy assistance benefits. Also removed were personnel files and payroll information of agency employees, according to DSS.

Earlier this year, a whistle-blower came forward charging the Community Action Agency with providing heating assistance to illegal immigrants in New Haven. A DSS audit later confirmed that the agency bypassed a computer field requiring a Social Security number, a common proof of citizenship, by using place-holder numbers or other measures.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s office on Friday reassured residents served by the agency that winter heating assistance, Meals On Wheels and other services will continue without interruption.

The Community Action Agency serves residents in New Haven, North Haven, West Haven, East Haven and Hamden.

A recent audit by the state'snspector general determined that one of Franklin County's (OH) agencies were also give benefits to illegals.
Fortunately, The IG make them understand it needed to stop, but nothing was ever in the news as to a corrective action.

I think I'll send this article to the Gov., the AG, and the IG.

Every town in South Florida needs to be audited and we know having a social security number means nothing unless they are verified.

I hope some whistle blowers here will step forward as I have heard complaints from some who know the truth but have kept quite for fear of losing their jobs.
