Lou Dobbs Tonight
Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Tonight, the sister-in-law of House Intelligence Committee
Chairman Silvestre Reyes was abducted while on a shopping day
trip in Juarez, Mexico. Once the perpetrators found out her
relation to the congressman, they let her go. We’ll have that
story and all the day’s political news. Plus:

* The Customs and Border Patrol deals with both trade and
security issues, but since 9/11 many of the agency's resources
have been devoted primarily to securing our borders. Today, a
Senate committee will hear from several agencies on their
efforts to juggle security and trade policy. Of course, these
agencies do not have a great track record on either front.

* More cases are surfacing of Chinese espionage at the top
levels of the U.S. government after the FBI discovered China
hacked into the computers of Reps. Frank Wolf and Chris Smith
earlier this month. We now know that Rep. Mark Kirk’s computers
were also compromised and Rep. Wolf says that there are even
more members who have fallen prey to Chinese hacking.

* The U.S. Trade Office actively worked with the Chinese
government to prevent the Maryland General Assembly from
banning certain products made with lead. Separately, the World
Trade Organization also put out a report criticizing a Maryland
General Assembly measure that would ban a dangerous chemical
compound in children’s products. We’ll take a look at the
obstructionist actions by big government to favor industry
above the safety of American consumers.

* Congress is about to go on recess for Independence Day, then
go on recess again for an August vacation and the parties’
nominating conventions. We’ll take a look at what the current
Congress has (or has not) accomplished this year.
