IN:Lugar's "DREAM Act" Aids Immigrant Children

Lugar's bill aids immigrant children
Sylvia A. Smith
WASHINGTON – There’s always something good that emerges from a really bad situation.
In the case of the lousy economy, one positive outcome would be enactment of some sensible immigration legislation.
Specifically, a bill to give the kids of illegal immigrants a path to citizenship.
Sen. Richard Lugar has been a longtime and consistent supporter of such an approach, but intense – and often ugly – emotions have blocked it.
But as the U.S. economy contracts, there are fewer jobs and less of a lure for people to cross the border illegally. With fewer undocumented immigrants, the boil-level fury in some quarters is likely to cool a bit.
If anti-immigration sentiments are less stoked, it’s possible the legislative climate on Capitol Hill would be more receptive to this common-sense approach to a situation that is not of these youngsters’ making.
And that would be good for everyone.
Lugar supports this approach for much the same reason that he worked against congressional Republicans’ attempt a few years ago to turn the school lunch program into a block grant for the states. (The upshot of that would have been to reduce the school lunch program.)
His rationale: Children can’t control what their parents do, where they move, how much money mom and dad make, whether they follow immigration laws. And because they don’t have a controlling vote in these adult decisions, Lugar believes, kids shouldn’t be punished for their parents’ actions or circumstances.
Here’s what happens: A child is brought to the U.S. by parents who cross the border without proper immigration papers. The baby grows, attends school, gets good grades and graduates from high school.
Now what?
The kid is not a U.S. citizen. But he or she is certainly not a “citizenâ€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Oh wouldn't they just love that, then as soon as the children are legal citizens they can apply for their parents, grandparents and siblings.
NO they can go home with their parents...don't be stupid, people move to foreign country's all the time, they can assimilate in their home country! Please support ALIPAC's fight to save American Jobs & Lives from illegal immigration by joining our free Activists E-Mail Alerts (CLICK HERE)

Why aren't saying it as it is? - that there is a vast conspiracy to Hispanize this country and that there are forces right pushing in that direction. Why aren't those politicians confronted with that question and asked why?

This is colossal stupidity. Of course, it is not the minor child's fault they are here, but we have no responsibility for continuing to allow the child and parents to remain on US soil. We are a nation of laws and those who have violated the law should be sent back or incarcerated, not treated as they have been God's gift to American society, while bloodsucking our resources.
Sure, life in nice here, but there are many needy countries where these folks can make a change. The schools are overrun and so many cash-strapped districts are unable to build more classrooms to handle the overflow. College slots also need no competition from illegals, which may leave smart Americans unable to attend.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Dearest Sylvia,
Oh wouldn't they just love that, then as soon as the children are legal citizens they can apply for their parents, grandparents and siblings.
NO they can go home with their parents...don't be stupid, people move to foreign country's all the time, they can assimilate in their home country!
Illegal immigration is not going to cool down, we have waited over 20 years for our laws to be enforced and we are not going to let up, especially in these economic hard times when millions of Americans are out of work, losing their homes and having a hard time feeding their families.
Americans give alot of aid to other country's, it is time for their own country to put them first.
I have a good Idea why don't you do a story on the American citizens who have lost their jobs, taken wage cuts, lost their homes and are living in cars and tents around this country.
That would be a little more patriotic!
Thanks.

Lugar's bill aids immigrant children: (brought here not born here)
There's always something good that emerges from a really bad situation.
In the case of the lousy economy, one positive outcome would be enactment of some sensible immigration legislation.
These are children brought here not born here. Lugar thinks since our economy is bad that the lure to come here illegally will stop people from objecting to his bill. What is wrong with him? People here ILLEGALLY pay coyotes to bring their children here all the time. This causes a great burden on local school districts. These children often do not speak English. Their education is behind that of U.S. children. They are always provided with Spanish speaking teachers. Why? It is Federal law.
Budgets are lean and we can not afford to further burden every school district that has these children come here, with their education needs. Making them citizens will also allow them to tap into our lunch programs, and many other over burdened social services
In the Dallas ISD, 400 English speaking teachers were fired in order to allow the hundreds of teachers brought in from Mexico & Spain to stay. The DISD has 1,980 'bilingual teachers'. That does not include the other school districts in this area. Do you want your English speaking students educational needs pushed aside?
This has made the English speaking students , classrooms exceed the state's 22:1 ratio for kindergarten through fourth-grade classes. Notice we are not told the real number of the ratio! Superintendent Michael Hinojosa, asking for wavers.
There are serious consequences to Sen Lugar's bill for many school districts in this nation. Illegal immigration is not just a problem for border states now. Illegal aliens have spread all over this nation. Consider what has happened here, as you ponder his bill.
Our nation is facing an economic crisis we can not afford to send a message to illegal aliens "If you can get all of your children here they will become citizens". As citizens they can bring other family members to our nation, petition to have their parents made legal. The consequences are far reaching.
