ALIPAC: Are the Raids Worth the Effort and Expense?

Are the Raids Worth the Effort and Expense?

Recent immigration crackdown brings different perspectives.

Whether or not the raids-which we have seen in Houston, Arkansas, New York, and other parts of the United States-are worth the time and cost depends on what perspective you have on them.

"For every one illegal alien you deport-if you do this thing right-three or four will leave on their own accord," William Gheen with Americans for Legal Immigration said. But, Gheen said there is a piece that's missing.

"We could pay for the cost if they would actually enforce the rest of the laws, and enforce the fines and sanctions against the employers who actually hire the illegal aliens," Gheen said. But that's easier said than done according to Norman Adams with Texans for Sensible Immigration.

"If an employee walks in and they have what looks to be legitimate identification-that is a social security card-and they otherwise qualify-you have to hire that worker, otherwise the EEOC will charge you with discrimination-and they have and they will," Adams said.

"We need a safe harbor that protects employers who have complied with the law. We need a positive ID for every person in this country that does not have a valid Social Security Card," Adams added.

What we need is for every employeer to use E-verify when they are hiring people.

Americans are turned away daily from employers; and EEOC is not there helping them.

So if this is the case just maybe, the employer needs to E-Verify. Employers your dumb actions are well noted.

(I have a new dislike for Green Card Holders, and Anchor Babies, today.
Green Card Holders are breaking the laws of a green card holder if they do not inform government if they change to a new address within 10 days)

Adams, that's exactly what signing up to E-Verify does (gives an employer safe harbor/hold harmless in the case of fraudulent ID).
...I wonder what excuse they'll offer NOW not to sign up...

Great point. Country of origin is an explicit class of persons protected by the EEOC civil rights laws..... let's make the generous assumption, that people originating from their very own country would or should be protected equally as people from Mexico, Ireland, Russia, or Vietnam.... - of course, that's using my rather narrow logic that says laws actually mean what they say and say what they mean, etc.... GRRRR

I guess that explains how the thousands of workers report under 000-00-0000 and 123-456-7890. You're a jackass Norm.

I'd like to see the employers of illegals punished the same way drug dealers are punished. That is to say, all assetts are seized and sold off to finance further drug enforcement. Just imagine if we did the same thing with illegal employers. The problem is so bad that I believe we would realize such a windfall for enforcement that we could not only compell the offenders to self deport, but we could also build the wall.

All the more reason to mandate E-verify so as to take the guess work out of this process! Where is the EEOC when millions of Americans cannot even apply for a job because the job ad requires the applicant to speak spanish! Where is the EEOC when an American citizen needs them!

Not a bad idea! Further, I would make E-Verify MANDATORY for any business in which ICE has conducted a raid or investigation and found illegals to be employed at that business. E-Verify should not be optional, especially for those businesses who have already been found to have been in violation of the law...
