A 29-year-old Brazilian national who was deported after being convicted of bank fraud in 1999 has been sent to federal prison for re-entering the country illegally.

Cassio Kennedy DeSouza was living in Danbury last August when he was taken into custody by police for disorderly conduct. A records check indicated DeSouza had been convicted in federal court in Massachusetts for fraud involving more than $10,000, said Acting U.S. Attorney Nora Dannehy.

He served 18 months in prison for entering the county illegally, and was sent back to Brazil in December 2001.

DeSouza pleaded guilty to the latest illegal re-entry charge in New Haven federal court in January.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Court Judge Mark Kravitz sentenced DeSouza to another prison term. Upon completion of his sentence, he will again be sent to Brazil, Dannehy said.
