Activist: Most US Hispanics Support Border Security
Wednesday, November 5, 2014 06:42 PM
President Barack Obama's plan to barrel ahead with an executive order granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants is a slap in the face to Hispanics, says Rachel Campos-Duffy, spokeswoman for the LIBRE Initiative and former star of MTV's "The Real World."
"It proves that Obama has never been about caring about the Hispanic community or caring about the things that they want to have done," Campos-Duffy said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"What he cares about is politics, and again, this isn't about good policy. Good policy is bringing people to the table, trying to find a common-sense solution.
"Seventy percent of Hispanic Americans believe border security is important. They care about the border, they live on the border, they don't want to have criminals or certainly not terrorists come through."
But an executive order, passed without the blessing and input of Congress, could cause chaos, she says.
"It cannot be undone later. What [Hispanics] need is certainty, what they need is an agreement that everybody comes to the table, puts their thoughts and ideas there, they hash it out," she said.
"In the end, people are going to be a lot happier in the long run with less hard feelings, and no demographic wants to be used as a political football."
Campos-Duffy said Hispanics are warming to Republicans as they leave the Obama camp.
"Over the last year, no demographic has soured more on Obama than Hispanics. They have dropped over the last year support for him by 25 percent, more than any other demographic," she said.
"What you find with Hispanics is that they act and vote more like independents, where they look at the individual candidate and what is that person going to do to help me. In this case, again, immigration is important to Hispanics, but it ranks number four in their concerns.
"The economy, healthcare, education, all rank higher . . . Republicans and the conservatives would be very smart to emphasize those ideas."

News flash: Toxic 'Bama has always been and always will be all about 'Bama. How else could be have had the gall to announce that he'd grant executive amnesty as soon as the November 4 elections were over?
