Cullman rally protests alien amnesty call
Sunday, April 16, 2006
From staff reports
CULLMAN - A large crowd rallied Saturday at the Cullman County Courthouse to protest calls for amnesty for illegal aliens, police said.
Police said it was unclear exactly how many people attended, but various crowd estimates ranged from 200 to 1,000 people. The demonstration was peaceful and no incidents were reported, police said.
The rally, organized by Cullman business owner Billy Kuykendall, was in response to nationwide marches April 10 by Hispanics and Hispanic advocates in protest of a proposed crackdown on illegal immigration. Kuykendall could not be reached for comment Saturday.
