    Nuestros Reconquistos joins Phoenix Latino civil rights Groups

    * February 19th, 2011 1:46 pm MT

    Since Arizona passed SB 1070 last year, civil rights groups have emerged like never before. Chicanos Unidos Arizona and Take Back Aztlán have become influential not only in Phoenix, but nationwide. Now, Nuestros Reconquistos has joined these two groups.

    I got a giggle over another of this writer's article:

    "Latino students in Phoenix score far below other students on state tests. This isn’t because they are dumber, but because they need special accommodations for their testing. Like people with learning disabilities, Phoenix Latinos should be able to take tests in a non-crowded environment where there are no time limits.

    Latinos, like people with disabilities, face a history where their land was stolen. The effects of the United States stealing land from Mexico are passed through their genes. This is just as bad as a learning or physical disability.

    It’s also true that Latino children don’t have access to advanced classes where Spanish is the main language, just like they are used to at home. The Spanish language is very important to the Latino child, who faces enough discrimination.

    Chicanos Unidos Arizona has informed the ACLU about this situation. We can only hope they will step in and stop the discrimination."

    You cannot dedicate yourself to America unless you become in every
    respect and with every purpose of your will thoroughly Americans. You
    cannot become thoroughly Americans if you think of yourselves in groups. President Woodrow Wilson
