Customs Officers Seize More Than 60 Pounds Of Cocaine

EL PASO, Texas -- Two people were arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail on drug charges, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

CBP officers at the Bridge of the Americas said they seized more than 25 pounds of cocaine at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The drugs were found by a drug-sniffing dog in the rear cargo compartment of a Toyota Rav4, officials said. CBP Homeland Security Investigations special officers arrested the driver, 42-year-old Carlos Flores of Juarez, Mexico.

Nearly two hours later, CBP officers at the Paso Del Norte crossing said they selected a Nissan Altima for additional screening. A CBP drug-sniffing dog detected drugs under the rear seat compartment, according to officials.

Officials said they recovers about 36 pounds of cocaine.
Karla Ivonne Vargas Aguilar, 28, of Juarez, Mexico, was arrested by CBP HSI agents.

Both drivers were held without bond.
