Totalization Agreement with Mexico
Wed, 10/31/2007 - 10:24 — dgrothe
Judicial Watch, under the Freedom of Information Act, obtained from the Social Security Administration (SSA) a U.S.-Mexican agreement, signed June 29, 2004, to coordinate the U.S. Social Security system with Mexico's. The cover letter from the SSA states that the agreement has not been “finalized.â€<div>''Life's tough......it's even tougher if you're stupid.''

On one hand they are telling my Generation, sorry, we may not be able to pay you benefits even though you paid into the system for the past 50 years. On the other hand, they are willing to pay Mexicans?

I have probably one of the biggest rant-ers on the board here regarding Soc. Sec. with respect to IAs.
Yes, it is a very bad thing. Here are some factoids many might not be aware of on the issue:
> The SSTA is an agreement, as is NAFTA, implemented by the Executive Branch - thus, avoiding a required Congressional vote of approval to be implemented. In all fairness, there are other Totalization Agreements on Social Security with about 20 other countries, however, the one with Mexico is particularly problematic because the majority of workers that it would potentially cover are here working illegally.
> Right now there is $519 billion dollars (or a handful of Euros <- sad, ironic humor) in the Social Security's 'Suspense File/Fund'. This represents the accumulated contributions of individual payors which cannot be accurately matched to legitimate SSNs (the majority of which are thought to be 'illegal workers' - but, you and I know what is really going on!)
> Other groups and people have tried to raise awareness of this issue.
The Senior Citizens League (www.tscl.org) is one on the very forefront of it.
> Senator Ensign (R-NV) included 2 related amendments to the recent Labor/HHS bill which: a) eliminated the possibility that people working in the US illegally could receive SS benefits, and b) nullified the SSTA w/Mexico. The bill is now being reconciled with the House (via Conference Committee).
... there are others, but this is a start.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
